Who are Scouts?

Scouts are a go-getting group of young people aged 10 ½ to 14 who:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Make new friends
  • Have fun and go on adventures, at home and abroad
  • Explore the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond

Week in and week out, they gather in a group called a Scout Troop to conquer the small task of changing the world.

When and where do they meet?

Our Scout troop meets on Thursday 7.30 – 9pm at St Nicholas Church Hall.

What do Scouts do?

What do Scouts do?

Being a Scout is all about discovering the world on your own terms and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are.

Alongside your new friends, you’ll master the skills that'll help you weather the storms of life, and try things you’d never get the chance to do at home or at school - working with trained volunteers to achieve whatever you set your mind to.

- Action and adventure

- Gain skills for life

- Help others

What do Scouts wear?

Scout uniform consists of:

- a green scout shirt (with your badges sewn on)

- blue trousers or shorts;

- a scout belt and buckle; and

- a 12th Harpenden scarf or 'necker’.

The scarf, woggle and badges will be provided by the Group.

Other items of uniform need to be purchased from the Scout Shop online, or from local shops e.g. Beats in Harpenden.

We also have a small number of second hand uniform items available, in return for a small donation to the group

12th Harpenden Code of Conduct

We are committed to creating a safe, positive and respectful environment for every young person. To support this we have one Code of Conduct for beaver colony, cubs pack and scout troop.

Our Code of Conduct can be found here: Code of Conduct

Promise

The Promise is a simple way to help young people and adults celebrate their shared Scout values. Every Scout promises to stick by these values when they become a member.

Scouts is open to people of all faiths and of none. We have different variations of our Promise, so everyone can make a Promise that means something to them, no matter their background or belief.

These can be found here: The Scout Promise

At 12th Harpenden we use the Christian wording (which includes a promise to God) by default - please let us know (before your child is invested, a few weeks after joining), if you would like your child to another version of the promise.
